Your Lib Dem Team Delivers on a Key Campaign Pledge to Build Sustainable Communities
Councillor Jonathan Moore has played a pivotal role in shaping the proposed co-living development on Worrall Street in Salford, which has now been formally submitted for planning approval. Over recent months, Councillor Moore has collaborated extensively with the developers and architects to ensure the project meets the needs of the local community.
The development, spearheaded by Reshape, aims to deliver 426 co-living apartments across two buildings, ranging from 11 to 14 storeys. It will also include amenities such as co-working spaces, a gym, and a residents' lounge. However, under the original plans, the apartments were open to people from across the region. Recognising the importance of prioritising local residents, Councillor Moore successfully lobbied for the units to be offered first to people within his the Quays followed by residents of Salford.
Councillor Moore’s advocacy didn’t stop there. He also pushed for significant design changes to minimise the impact of deliveries on the surrounding area and to enhance public access to the nearby riverfront. These adjustments required substantial revisions to the initial designs, but the developers agreed to incorporate them, demonstrating their commitment to working with the community.
“These apartments will provide much-needed options for residents currently living in shared accommodations and looking for their own space,” Councillor Moore said. “Securing a commitment to prioritise people already living nearby is a clear demonstration of our Salford Liberal Democrat pledge to build sustainable communities.”
The co-living model is particularly aimed at young professionals and other residents seeking high-quality, flexible housing options. By combining private living spaces with shared amenities, the development is designed to foster a sense of community while addressing housing demands in a rapidly growing area.
Councillor Moore’s endorsement of the project follows months of advocacy and consultation. “I promised the developers that if they listened to our concerns and incorporated our suggestions, I would support their proposal,” he said. “I’m pleased to see they have delivered on their commitments, and I look forward to seeing this project contribute to the vibrancy and sustainability of our community.”
The planning application will now go through the formal approval process. If approved, the development promises to be a landmark addition to Salford, offering innovative housing solutions while reflecting the priorities of the local community.
