We're here to help residents in need of advice, guidance or support and you can find a wide range of helpful resources below. 

However, many issues are often best solved by contacting the relevant organisation directly. For example bins, roads, schools, planning and parking are the responsibility of Salford City Council and the authority should be the first point of call.

Salford City Council should be your first point of call for any queries related to bins, business rates, council tax, housing, libraries, parking, planning, roads, schools or any locally-run service.

πŸ’· Benefits, finances, and employment

  • Salford City Council's Welfare Rights and Debt Advice Service offers free, confidential and independent advice on benefits or debt problems. You can get in touch online or call them on 0800 345 7323
  • Advisory, Conciliation, and Arbitration Service (ARCAS) gives employees and employers free, impartial advice on workplace rights, rules and best practice. They also offer training and help to resolve disputes. Find out more about ARCAS here.
  • Salford Unemployment and Community Resource Centre provides support services for the local community, including older people, disabled people, jobseekers, and workers who are facing difficulties. Find out more here.

  • Salford City Council has a range of supports for different issues such as school admissions, accessing free school meals, and post-16 education and training options. You can view them in full here.
  • Salford Information Advice and Support Services (SIASS) offers information, advice and support to children, young people and parents about special educational needs and disability. 
  • Student Finance is responsible for awarding funding for higher education courses. Students normally resident in Salford will usually apply through Student Finance England.
  • Information about further education is available from Salford City Council's website, including apprenticeship listings, training, and courses offerred by Salford City College.

🏘️ Housing 

  • Salford City Council offers a variety of short and long-term help. Find out more on this page.
  • Salford Housing Options Point (SHOP) is a one-stop shop and information hub on housing and housing-related issues for local residents.
  • Salford Home Search runs the housing register in Salford. You can search and bid for available council and housing association properties on its website.
  • Shelter can provide free housing advice on a range of issues like landlords failing to make repairs, mortgage arrears, what to do if you're threatened with eviction and more.

  • Contact HM Passport Office (HMPO) for advice or complaints about British passports issued in the UK. You can get in touch online or call the helpline at 0300 222 0000.
  • The Foreign Office has a list of different countries' embassies around the UK, their contact details, and the services they offer. You can find yours on their online directory.
  • Migrant Help are a national charity that provide advice on several issues, including how to claim asylum, navigating the immigration process, and finding legal representation. Find out more about their services here.

If you have a power cut call 105 for free. You will be connected to your local electricity network operator’s emergency line.β€―

  • Electricity North West is responsible for electricity in the Greater Manchester area, including Salford. 
  • United Utilities provides water and wastewater services in the North West of England.

  • Citizens Advice can provide support with a wide range of issues and has branches in Cadishead, Walkden, Eccles, Salford City, and Salford Royal Hospital.
